Most Beautiful Places To Visit In Kefalonia Island

Kefalonia is a beautiful island located in the southern part of Greece. It is known for its beaches and landscape, but it also has many historical sites that you won’t want to miss out on.  Here are some of the most beautiful places to visit on Kefalonia Island:

1. Assos

Assos is a town located in the Kefalonia region of Greece. This area is known for its beautiful beaches and has been a popular tourist destination since ancient times when it was known as Pytheas’ Grave.

The town’s name comes from the Greek word “assos,” which means “firm,” because it was founded by a man named Assos who lived during the Middle Ages.  The ancient city of Mylae was also located here, but it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1504 AD (which also destroyed much of Patras).

In modern times, however, Assos has become famous for its beach and castle ruins—a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979—as well as being home to many restaurants and cafes that serve delicious Greek cuisine!

2. Myrtos

Myrtos is a small village in the west of Kefalonia. It’s most popular for hiking and has some great views to see, especially at sunset. The view from the top of one of its mountains is spectacular!

3. Melissani Cave

Melissani Cave is a cave on the northwest coast of Kefalonia, Greece. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece and has been known since ancient times.

The cave was first mentioned by Homer in his epic poem “Iliad”. The name means “White City” because it is an underground city that can be seen through a hole in the ground.

4. Antisamos Beach

Antisamos Beach is located in the northern part of Kefalonia Island and it is one of the most beautiful beaches on this island. The beach is long, with high cliffs on both sides, so you can see some spectacular views.

It’s also famous for its clear water and calm environment that attracts many tourists every day. The facilities include showers, toilets, changing rooms, and even a restaurant where you can eat lunch or dinner while enjoying the view of Antisamos Beach!

You will love this place because there are plenty of things to do here including swimming (in summer), snorkeling (in winter), or diving (during summer).

5. Fiscardo

Fiscardo is a small town on the southern side of the island. It’s located just off the main road that connects Kefalonia Town to Argostoli and further north into Greece.

The village has a population of around 500 people, most of whom are farmers or fishermen. You will find some nice houses here with traditional architecture from the late 19th century, but nothing too fancy or expensive.

If you don’t mind walking around in silence for an hour or so, then this place might be worth visiting. Because it has some pretty views over the sea and even a small beach nearby where you can spend time relaxing after visiting other attractions around Fiscardo (more on those below).

6. Lixouri

Lixouri is a small town on the east coast of Kefalonia. It is a good starting point for exploring the island and its resorts, which are located in this area. Lixouri has many good restaurants and bars where you can enjoy your meal or drink with other people.

The beach at Fiscardo is one of the most beautiful beaches of Kefalonia, known for its crystal clear waters that make it ideal for snorkeling or swimming during summertime.

7. Skala Village

Skala Village is a great place to visit. It’s a beautiful village that has many things to offer, including:

• Swimming in the sea (if you want).

• Eating at one of their restaurants.

• Shopping in their stores and markets.

Skala Village also has plenty of places for you to stay such as hotels, apartments, and villas with breathtaking views of the sea!

8. Lassi Peninsula

Lassi is a small peninsula in the northwest of Kefalonia. The name means “salt” in Greek, and it’s an excellent place to visit if you want to see some beautiful beaches and take a dip.

You can also go hiking or biking on this part of the island, which makes it popular with tourists year-round. If that’s not enough for your tastes, there are plenty more activities available here as well!

Lassi is home to some fantastic scuba diving sites including Blue Hole and Kalamos Beach; both have been rated as among Greece’s top 10 beaches by TripAdvisor users (and both are well worth checking out).

You’ll find plenty more things to do here too: snorkeling near one of its many coves; fishing off its rocky shores;  exploring caves full at Cape Sounion where ancient Greeks once lived before moving onto nearby Santorini Island during the early days after 700 BC.

When they lost control over land back home due to Athenian imperialism policies such as colonization campaigns aimed at gaining power over neighboring territories by force rather than diplomacy through talks with leaders representing those nations’ cultures instead.

9. Petani Beach, Argostoli

Petani Beach is a beautiful beach in Argostoli. It’s one of the best places to go for sunbathing, swimming, and walks. The beach itself has white sand and crystal-clear waters. You can also see petunias (a local species of fish) swimming around as well!

The sunset at Petani Beach is breathtakingly beautiful as well because it has a view of Mount Athos at night time which makes this place even more stunning than it already is! If you want some peace and quiet while enjoying these sights then I recommend renting an apartment here too;

they are cheap but still comfortable enough so that you don’t feel like moving anywhere else when visiting Greece’s favorite island Kefalonia Island.

10. Mount Ainos

Mount Ainos is the highest peak in Kefalonia and can be reached by car or by foot. The views from its summit are spectacular, with panoramic views of the sea and islands as well as surrounding mountains. There is also a monastery at the top that you can visit if you want to experience something different while in Greece!
